About Doug

Doug von Kohorn is a product leader, founder, and engineer based in Germany. Over the last decade he has built and shipped products at the intersection of blockchain, decentralized finance, machine learning, and quantitative investing.

Current Work: Threshold Network & tBTC

Most recently, Doug built Threshold Network for Thesis — a fully decentralized bridge that tokenizes and secures BTC for use in Ethereum and the broader DeFi ecosystem. The project, called tBTC, has over 6000 BTC secured ~= $400 Million USD. Think of it as WBTC — but fully private, transparent, and sovereign.

Previously: Rhombus (Acquired by Chainlink)

Before Thesis, Doug was co-founder and CEO of Rhombus, a blockchain technology company that securely tethered real-world data to blockchain applications. Rhombus was acquired by Chainlink and Doug continued as VP of Product at ConsenSys, where Rhombus was incubated.

Earlier Companies

Doug has been an entrepreneur and operator for more than a decade. Before Rhombus, he was founder and CTO of v2 Ratings, a quantitative investment data service that applied machine learning to SEC-filing fundamentals for security selection and portfolio construction; v2 Ratings was sold to Xynon, Inc. He has built several companies centered on finance, governance, and machine learning.

He was Director of Engineering at Collective Decision Engines, a quadratic-voting survey company he built with Kevin Slavin, Eric Posner, and Glen Weyl. In addition to Rhombus and v2 Ratings, Doug has sold two other companies: a New York software consultancy that invented a novel process for envisioning and building startups, and a job-placement marketplace that leveraged positive psychology to match candidates with their ideal roles.

Education

Doug received his B.S. in Computer Science from Yale University.
